The two manuscripts for this text are the Anthologia Palatina (A.P.) in the Codex Palatinus 23 and the Anthologia Planudea (A.Pl.) in the Codex Marcianus Gr. 481. A.P. has several hands, one of which is known as the Palatine Corrector, conventionally (and here) represented by C.

ὑμνοπόλον, πάτρης τύμβος ἔδεκτο Τέω,
ὃς Χαρίτων πνείοντα μέλη μέλη A.Pl., C : μέλαν A.P., πνείοντα δ' Ἐρώτων
τὸν γλυκὺν ἐς παίδων ἵμερον ἡρμόσατο.

This tomb on Teos, his fatherland, took Anacreon, immortal singer through the Muses, who singing songs of the Graces, and singing of Loves, tunes his lyre to the sweet desire of youths. Only one thing saddens him in Acheron, not that, leaving [5] the sun, he reached the halls of Lethe, but that he has left Megisteus, lovely among the youths, and Smerdius his Thracian flame. But he has not ceased from his honey-sweet songs, and though dead in Hades, he has not yet muted that lyre of his. [10]
